If the problem still persists, do bring one of the vcd's back here at durgapur.
you told on phone that those vcds run perfectly on your laptop in
fedora, *is* some hope. Need to look, you told data-cd/dvd is working
on that machine, and those particular vcds won't in fedora. If
possible, try some completely different vcd straight from market,
might help to reproduce the problem.
Also can you provide the machine specs in smolt (public link), cd/dvd
drive model and the dmesg output
